The
property, located on the outskirts of Spartanburg, South
Carolina, was a land grant from King George III of England
to W. Pollard, who came down from Virginia in 1769 before
the Revolutionary War. Along with him were four other men
all with the first name John. They were all given 466 acres
of land, as the king was trying to create loyalty to the
throne by giving away land.There
were four generations of Pollards that lived in this home
place. Which was originally named "Carobella" for the first
Pollard's wife Carolyn. The kitchen and dining rooms were
built in 1835 with 12' beaded ceilings. The front eight
rooms were built in 1912 with 9' ceilings and transoms over
the doors. Each of the 10 rooms has a fireplace. And there
is an original log cabin on the property. All the material
to build this home was cut from this farm; sawed, dried and
assembled in the workshop located there.
Records
show the home was sold out of the Pollard family in 1969, to
a family named the Hametts's from Pennsylvania; they owned
it until 2003, when because of an illness the property was
sold. It was then purchased in August of 2006 and renamed
"Bella Haven" which means Beautiful Haven.
Because of the desire to have a place of peace and serenity
for those who
Wish to partake, and a series of incidents, that led to
South Carolina, the Feelings of being "pulled" to this area
to search for the place that would suite the plans for a
retreat were overwhelming.
After numerous months of searching the
states of North and South Carolina, each place visited,
seemed to have just gone under contract or something of the
property just did not "feel right." After continually being
drawn back to this particular homestead, a purchase was
made.
Since
the August 2006 purchase, there has been constant movement
to refurbish, and bring this "Beautiful Haven" back to the
elegant lady she once was. Amazing, almost magical events
seemingly occur over and over again in the manifestation of
the people to help as needed and furniture pieces to fill
the numerous spaces within.
The journey to "Bella Haven” has been inspirational,
allowing the feeling of being on the correct life path. And
having a sense of the presence of the original Matron of the
property "Carolyn” it is truly an awesome honor to have been
chosen to bring her "Carobella" back into being again, full
of life and laughter.
